Asbestos Super 6 roofing has been a high performing product for many years, and no other roofing material has been able to compete with it for durability and longevity. Many roofs around New Zealand are into their fifth and sixth decade of service without virtually any maintenance needed. However, nothing lasts forever.
Super 6 roof sheeting is a bonded material of cement and asbestos fibres, which gives it its strength and durability, and in its pristine state (still found on the interior underside of many roofs) the asbestos fibres are embedded in the hard cement material. After decades of abrasion from the elements, the cement material wears down exposing the asbestos fibres which can become airborne and wash down gutters polluting our environment.
